Assessing tire condition
The condition of your tires can affect everything from how your Buick operates on the road to its gas mileage and more. Many factors – including time in use, temperature, loading conditions and improper inflation – can affect how fast a tire ages.

The tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS)
The TPMS works by sending a signal from the pressure sensor, located in your vehicle’s wheel, to the instrument control panel, which alerts you when the tire pressure is low. It is recommended that a trained professional inspect, and, if necessary, service your TPMS to determine if it is working properly.

When to check tire pressure
If your vehicle is not equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), check your tires at least once a month with a tire pressure gauge (your vehicle’s recommended tire pressure number likely can be found on a sticker inside the driver’s door).

When should I replace my tires?
Place a penny upside down in between the most severely worn part of the tire’s tread groove. If the tread doesn’t touch the top of Lincoln’s head on the coin, it’s time to replace your tires. When your tires only have 2/32 of an inch or less of tread remaining, the wear indicators in each tire’s grooves will be level with the outer tread surface.

When should I rotate my tires?
To help equalize wear, tires typically should be rotated every 7,500 miles.

Do I need an alignment?
If you notice any of the following, it may be time for a tire or alignment service: wheel bends or dents, recurring loss of tire pressure, bumps in the tire sidewalls, vibration emanating from the wheels, or unusual front-end movement when driving on flat surfaces.
